They saved our boy…..

A long and convoluted story, but the short version is this. We were transporting our pet from LA to Hawaii (our new forever home) through another service. Samson is a big dog and needed to travel via a cargo service. We planned the entire trip around him (including our flight days/times etc). We dropped off our perfectly healthy pup (complete with health certificate), the night before. He was to arrive before our flight landed.

We are on the tarmac, taxiing for take-off, when a text pops up “can you talk?”. “No, but I can text”. Apparently, their flight had to be turned back because of an aircraft complication. All the pets were in limbo for a few hours, while they fixed the issue. That’s when Tailwind Global was brought in.

Brady noticed that Samson seemed lethargic and not doing so well. Brady knows we are in the air, and quickly determines he needs to get to the vet. He made all the arrangements, but his instincts were right, he had a bad bout of bloat (and he needed emergency surgery). The first diagnosis was 20% chance of survival, and $11-$14k in surgery with no guarantees.

That first vet didn’t cut it; Brady didn’t flinch, he redirected (with precision). He spoke for me when I couldn’t (or when the previous vet treated Samson like an object or a number). They got him to the right vet, a wonderful woman who flipped those odds in our favor. It was my worst nightmare realized and I had zero chance of getting back before surgery.

I had to stay focused on getting him his surgery (aftercare discussions on hold) or we’d be too late for any aftercare. We elected the surgery, the Vet said that Brady saved his life. He caught it quickly, he recognized the symptoms, and knew what needed to be done. Erik, the young man who transported him, knew we couldn’t be there, so offered to stay until he was in surgery (so our boy wasn’t alone). It was honestly one of the kindest and nicest things anyone has ever done for us. He took pictures, he let us know what he knew as he received the info. They became an extension of our family, caring for him, as if Samson belonged to them.

Hours later the phone rings, and it is the vet – surgery was a success. She said, besides watching his heart after a big surgery like this, she expected a full recovery. Great, he is safe and well, and now, we need to figure out the post-surgery care aspect. I called family and friends. We contemplated staying in a hotel, but none of those options were optimal for Samson’s recovery. What we knew for sure is that he could not fly, until his stitches came out (2-3 weeks).

I am in full blown “what do we do now mode”, researching like a mad woman – Brady calls and his company offered to care for him, until he could fly home. That call ended with me in tears and in total disbelief that good people do exist.

They took exceptional care of him over the recovery weeks. They took photos, gave me updates, and hand fed him. They took him to have his stitches taken out, got an updated health certificate, and helped us coordinate the logistics back home. Samson arrived last night, and all I could do was appreciate that we were lucky to see him again and so very thankful to Brady, Erik and the entire crew at Tailwind Global for taking such good care of him. They care for your pets as if they were their own. You can’t ask for more than that.

Here’s the kicker with this review – we did not contract with them for this service; they got pulled into our situation by the service we did hire. They handled it with grace, love and care (the entire time).

Brady and the team will forever be honorary members of the Sickinger family. Words are not enough. Thank you —- is not enough.

I believe that we need more kindness in the world. I try to give kindness daily, but I have never received a level of kindness that matches the type of support I give. This team renewed my faith in humanity – this may be one of the greatest selfless acts I have ever witnessed and as a result, they have a raving fan, and I have a pup, who lives among us.

I am very grateful for this group of people, that helped me from the
very beginning, as I was at a loss, and confused when it came to deal with the CDC, and the different requirements that were asked of me. I was able to keep in contact with Jasmin, who guided me, and helped all the way for Gus and I to be reunited.

We’re committed to doing a crate job, whatever it takes.
