Certificates for Every Type of Travel
Travel health certificates verify that your pet meets all of the entry requirements for your destination. Whether you’re just crossing state lines or planning international pet travel, our personalized services allow you to rest easy when your travel date comes around.
Domestic
Even when traveling within the United States, most airlines require a current health certificate, or certificate of veterinary inspection (CVI), for your pet. This certificate confirms that your pet is healthy, up-to-date on their vaccinations, and fit to fly. Certificates should be dated within 10 days of your flight.
State-by-state requirements for domestic travel may vary from there, especially if you’re traveling to a destination like Hawaii with more complex rules around rabies vaccinations.
A pet transportation service like Tailwind can ensure that every certificate meets U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulations, state requirements, and airline rules. Our in-house, state-licensed, USDA-accredited veterinarians can also ensure that your pet is healthy enough to fly or make additional recommendations before your pet’s flight.
That includes suggesting vaccinations you may not have considered, microchipping, and ensuring identification tags on pets and their crates are present and visible.
International
When pets fly from the U.S. to another destination country, they generally need an international health certificate specific to the destination. For most global destinations, forms should be completed by a licensed veterinarian and endorsed by the USDA.
From there, requirements can vary widely depending on the destination country, airline policies, and your pet’s breed and age. Pets traveling to Australia, for example, must have additional import permits and proof of rabies titer tests before entry.
Tailwind’s expert team, which includes an in-house, USDA-accredited vet, can guide you through every step of the process. We help navigate country-specific regulations, paperwork, and potential hurdles, ensuring your pet’s journey is safe, smooth, and compliant.
Importing Into the U.S.
When bringing a pet into the U.S., paperwork requirements depend on where your pet is coming from and the rabies risk in that region. Pets arriving from countries considered low-risk for rabies may only need a CDC Dog Import Form and a health certificate to fulfill USDA and airline requirements.
Pets coming from high-risk areas may require additional documentation detailing their rabies history, rabies titers, and a reservation at a CDC-approved animal care facility. Specific CDC requirements depend on whether the pet was vaccinated in the U.S. or abroad.
For pets who need it, our boarding facility, Kennel Club LAX, is one of only 7 CDC-approved Animal Care Facilities (ACFs) in the U.S. That means we’re not just a pet shipper. We’re authorized to handle pet imports from high-risk rabies countries, including performing health checks, vaccinations, and, if required, a quarantine stay, to help you clear customs.

Step-by-Step Support
Traveling with a pet involves many moving parts, from paperwork to vaccinations to airline requirements. Our experts guide you through the entire process, step by step, so nothing is missed and your pet’s journey to their final travel destination is as smooth as possible.
Health certificates are just the beginning. From the moment you start planning to the day of your pet’s departure, our team is there to help make the process seamless.
Vaccinations and Treatments
Keeping your pet healthy and compliant with domestic and international travel regulations is our top priority. We can help you coordinate all required vaccinations and treatments, ensuring your pet meets the rules of the destination country or state. We’ll make sure every shot and preventative treatment is administered within the right timeframes and properly documented.
On-Site USDA-Accredited Vets
Our in-house, USDA-accredited veterinarians are available to handle health certificate preparation, vaccinations, and any necessary inspections. Having accredited vets on-site means your pet’s paperwork is accurate, USDA-endorsed, and ready when you need it, without the stress of coordinating multiple appointments.
Our federally accredited vets can also ensure your pet is well enough to travel. That can include heartworm and other blood tests, temperament checks, and overall wellness.
CDC Rabies Import Program
For pets arriving in the U.S. from a foreign country at high risk for rabies, Tailwind is one of only 7 CDC-approved Animal Care Facilities across the country. We provide expert guidance to move your pet through the CDC’s rabies import program. That includes health checks, rabies vaccination verification, and quarantine if required, ensuring your pet meets all requirements.

Tailwind is a fully licensed and insured pet relocation service, giving you peace of mind that your pet is in professional hands. We are also active members of the IPATA and the ATA, staying up-to-date on best practices, safety standards, and global pet transport regulations.

See What Our Clients Have to Say

“My family moved from San Francisco to London in March 2024 and Tailwind arranged the move of our Dalmatian. Brady Wheeler, Tailwind’s Operations Manager, walked us through the vaccination requirements, arranged for the export health certificate and its endorsement with the USDA. He also proposed a more cost efficient route for us to bring our Dalmatian over to London, for which we are super grateful! The whole process was expertly handled and organized. This was definitely the least stressful part of the move due to Tailwind’s superb handling of our dog’s move to London: from his pickup in SF to his delivery to our home in London. We were provided regular updates, so didn’t have to wonder and worry as to where he is in the process and his whereabouts. I can’t recommend them enough and Brady, in particular!”
– Katerina O.

“I was so nervous to ship my fur babies overseas, but our airline recommended Tailwind Global Pet. From our first phone call with Brady, we felt comfortable with our decision because of his knowledge and professionalism. He confidently answered every question through many years of experience. Tailwind handled everything from the veterinary exams to the USDA certificate. Most importantly, our dogs arrived at our door happy and in great shape. I will definitely use their services again and I highly recommend to anyone that needs to ship their pets.”
– Jamie G.

“I cannot thank Tailwind enough for the outstanding service they provided while my 13-year-old dog was in transit at LAX.
What touched me most was the dedication they showed in working with USDA APHIS. They went far beyond the ordinary process—personally reaching out, expediting procedures, and ultimately making the impossible possible to secure her veterinary certificate endorsement.
It is rare to find a team that combines such heartfelt care with absolute professionalism. Thanks to Tailwind, my senior dog received the care and attention she deserved during a stressful transition, and I had peace of mind knowing she was in the best hands.
I wholeheartedly and without reservation recommend Tailwind to anyone seeking pet travel, transit, or clearance services. They are simply outstanding.”
